Home cooking is sometimes treated as if it’s a museum piece but it’s a living, breathing and evolving thing which responds to where we went on holiday, the friends we have made and the meals we have eaten.
– Nigella Lawson’s interview with NZ Herald, 27 Jan 2018
A mild Mediterranean climate and fertile soils make Hawke’s Bay an ideal region for growing a range of horticultural produce. Behind the scenes, skilled and creative artisan food producers are crafting the fruits of the harvest into delectable edibles that proudly state their Hawke’s Bay origin; a claim synonymous with quality, flavour and flair. The Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Market, held every Sunday at the A & P Showgrounds in Hastings, is the go-to place if you want an overview of just how extensive this range of local food and produce is.
While many of these Hawke’s Bay fresh foods & artisan products go to ready markets in other parts on New Zealand, there’s always a plentiful supply to fill the baskets and tantalise the taste-buds of local families, foodies – and, of course, visitors. Join us on a tour that explores what Hawke’s Bay offers a fine food aficionado.
